Local information.

Your nearest beach is at the seaside village of La Cala de Mijas. Here you will find many small tapas bars and fine restaurants. The beach at La Cala is ideal for children and adults alike ... there are several chiringitos (beach bars) that serve mouth watering snacks and seafood.

Fuengirola is probably most famous for its five miles of sandy beaches. A recent landscaping drive by the local municipality has resulted in a wider promenade and plenty of palm trees, interspersed with colourful flower beds and additional seating. The beaches known as Boliches - Gaviotas and Torreblanca hold a European blue flag. In the evening the old town with its myriad of streets and squares play host to the best restaurants in the area.(Insider tip..dont miss the largest flea market on the coast every Saturday at the fairground between the Centre and Los Boliches)

Marbella's motto is "A Way of Life" and, certainly, this luxurious resort town seems to have it all and is, once again, rising to the fore as a favourite location with the rich and famous, as well as more ordinary folk who are willing to pay just a little bit extra for southern Spain's answer to St Tropez.

But Marbella has a down to earth side as well, an air of individuality which can be best appreciated by exploring back streets in the old part of town. One of the prettiest places is the fabled 'Orange Square' which is located just off the main street in the older district and is also home to the 16th century town hall and tourist office where you can pick up a detailed map and visitor information.

Puerto Banus is located just west of Marbella, before you reach the small town of San Pedro de Alcantara. This is the place to be pampered quayside and ogle those fabulous luxury yachts while sipping a drink at one of the many open air restaurants and bars. The setting is close to ideal, with its impressive mountain backdrop and ocean views. For the young at heart the aptly named "2nd Line" is the place to be after 10pm.

Only about an hour away is Ronda, which retains much of its historic charm, particularly its old town. It is famous worldwide for its dramatic escarpments and views, and for the deep El Tajo gorge that carries the Rio Guadalevín through its centre. Visitors make a beeline for the 18th century Puente Nuevo 'new' bridge, which straddles the 100m chasm below, for its unparalleled views out over the Serranía de Ronda mountains.

Granada. One of the most brilliant jewels of universal architecture is the Alhambra, a series of palaces and gardens built in the 14th C. This mighty compound of buildings – including the summer palace called Generalife, with its fountains and gardens - stands at the foot of Spain's highest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada, and overlooks the city below.
